The Asps was a landmark project for EDP. We provided lead inputs for all our services to Barwood Strategic Land, on a site which was highly sensitive due to its proximity to the Grade I listed Warwick Castle and Grade I Warwick Great Park RPG.


Having advised our clients that the site would require an approach of the highest sensitivity, including reserving part of the site in agricultural use, the scheme was nonetheless refused planning permission following objections from the District Council, Warwick Civic Society and Heritage England.


EDP provided evidence at the forthcoming call-in inquiry. The Secretary of State agreed with EDP that, although a degree of harm would accrue to both landscape and heritage interests, the harm was not so severe that it should override the public interest in other respects. The Secretary of State granted planning permission for 900 homes.


The site is currently being prepared for sale and EDP has been involved in keeping the evidence base for the site up to date.
