EDP was commissioned by Savills, acting on behalf of Ashburton Trading limited, to provide townscape, visual amenity, ecology and archaeology/heritage advice and technical assessments in support of proposals for residential development at Queensland Road, London Borough of Islington.
The ambitious scheme represented the final element of Arsenal Football Club’s masterplan to regenerate the area around the Premiership Club’s Emirates Stadium in North London, and comprised residential buildings of up to 21 storeys in height.
EDP worked closely with Savills, CZWG Architects and officers at London Borough of Islington in preparing and reviewing design iterations for the scheme, which included a large sports centre and four residential towers, thereby finalising proposals taken forward to a planning application supported by an Environmental Impact Assessment.
Technical inputs included the critical modelling of the proposed buildings to analyse the extent and nature of visual effects on the character of the surrounding townscape, many elements of which shared strong visual connections with the site and/or are designated as listed buildings or conservation areas.
Planning permission was granted by London Borough of Islington in March 2009, and construction work commenced in 2011.
