In 2014, EDP prepared a masterplan for Catesby Estates to support an outline planning application on land at Newington Road, Stadhampton. The site was an unexceptional parcel of land but was argued by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC), to contribute critically to the setting of Stadhampton village. The application was refused and appealed.

The forthcoming S78 inquiry was notable in two respects. First, because EDP’s landscape evidence focused on a study of the degree to which the site contributed to the setting of the village (rather than its landscape character per se) and second, because the only members of the public who spoke at the inquiry, supported the proposal. SODC’s refusal to allocate land in the smaller villages of South Oxfordshire, was, in their opinion, stifling the social health of the communities.

Planning permission was granted at appeal and the site is currently under construction.
