EDP was commissioned by Curo Enterprise Ltd to provide archaeology and heritage services to support the proposed redevelopment of the former Foxhill MOD site on the south side of the historic City of Bath.

 

The outline planning proposals, which were unanimously approved by the planning committee at Bath & North East Somerset Council in February 2015, provide for the construction of up to 700 new dwellings, as well as retail, employment and education uses and supporting community infrastructure including a new primary school.

The 19.5 hectare site is located on Combe Down and proposals for its redevelopment were potentially constrained by a number of heritage designations, not least being its location within the City of Bath World Heritage Site and its proximity to the Grade I Registered Park and Garden at Prior Park, which is managed by the National Trust.

 

EDP undertook extensive investigation and assessment to confirm that there would be no significant impacts on these (and other) designated heritage assets, having previously recorded the former Admiralty buildings prior to site clearance and confirmed the site’s low potential to contain sub-surface archaeological remains.

 

With relevant outline planning conditions (including for archaeological investigation) having been discharged, detailed proposals for the first phase of 275 dwellings were approved by Bath & North East Somerset Council in September 2015.
