EDP’s Landscape Team offers a comprehensive range of services. We are a Registered Practice of the Landscape Institute and the majority of our consultants are chartered members, having undergone rigorous training and testing to achieve that status. Between them they have decades of experience covering the whole breadth of this diverse sector.
Our services include:
Where formal assessment is not required, for example at early feasibility stages or where schemes are considered to be uncontroversial, EDP can provide ‘made to measure’ appraisals to suit almost any budget. These can be as simple as a rapid turn-around desk based assessment (utilising online data sources) or a field visit by a senior team member to provide up-front advice on the development potential of possible sites.
In the context of both outline and detailed planning applications, we offer full, formal landscape and visual impact assessments (LVIA) to inform the development of scheme proposals and support their submission. We will liaise with local authority landscape officers to agree appropriate and robust assessment methodologies and all our work is undertaken in line with current best practice guidance. Environmental Statement chapters can also be provided.
Whether in the context of a strong existing regional/local Green Infrastructure (GI) framework document, or in the absence of such work, we are able to assess the existing GI network and assets and guide development proposals to incorporate these assets to best advantage, ensuring an efficient and robust site response that maximises the multifunctional nature of its landscape resource.
We have a proven track record in innovative and imaginative landscape design at all scales, from individual properties to extensive public realm design. Our work encompasses all design inputs from overarching landscape strategies for large sites to detailed planting plans for residential schemes. Specifications, management plans and maintenance schedules can all be provided.
Where we take schemes through to detailed design and management stages, we can also provide on-site support to contractors, whether through a formal ‘Contract Administrator’ role or simply by being retained by our clients to review and advise on the work in progress.
We have notable experience with regard to the use of, and indeed benefits of, biodiverse (or ‘green’) roofs. We can provide initial advice on system selection, design planting schemes and liaise with specialist contractors to arrange implementation.
Our landscape team can respond to recreation and rights of way issues arising as a result of development such as Public Right of Way modifications and diversions, recreational impact assessments for Environmental Impact Assessments.
