EDP offers independent consultancy services for all aspects of archaeology and cultural heritage from initial land appraisal to mitigation strategies. Archaeological features are not always visible on the ground surface, and can be overlooked when assessing the purchase value of land. A rapid archaeological appraisal can provide vendors or purchasers with the likely costs should the land be developed.
EDP identifies the likelihood of archaeology being present by preparing archaeological assessments. We then negotiate with local authorities on the level of any further evaluation required, and obtain competitive costings for such work. In short, we can manage the whole process for you in an efficient, cost-effective way.

The heritage team undertake a wide range of detailed technical archaeological and cultural heritage reports, including archaeological and heritage setting assessments, heritage impact assessments, ES chapters and scoping reports for Environmental Impact Assessments. We can provide bespoke documents to cover specific issues or sites as required.
We provide expert advice regarding the balance of development and protection of designated assets and can provide all the required documentation and make any applications on your behalf.
We assess a wide range of buildings and building complexes to determine their heritage value and to advise on the impact of development and how the heritage interest of the buildings can be preserved whilst accommodating development. This also includes detailed assessment of setting and the contribution this makes to significance.
We provide heritage management plans both as part of developments and as standalone documents for specific monuments or areas of historic or archaeological interest, such as conservation areas. This process includes detailed liaison with interested parties to develop appropriate programmes of conservation and display.
We can arrange and manage a wide range of fieldwork activities, providing advice on appropriate timing, methods and scope and liaising with local planning authorities as necessary. We provide Written Schemes of Investigation and method statements as required. We do not have a fieldwork team in-house, and as such can provide independent advice regarding the scope and necessity of these works.
