EDP were appointed by Solar Planning Ltd. to provide multi-discipline inputs into this c.15MW solar park on land at Crucis Park Farm, Cirencester. This was an excellent project to get involved with, not only due to the challenges of delivering a scheme adjacent to the AONB, but also because the site is directly adjacent to the main road to our Cirencester Office!
Despite the site’s proximity to the AONB, the key development constraint was the extensive archaeological and heritage interest on the site, and in particular the line of a Roman Road that passes through its northerly section. Although this was known about prior to the scheme coming forward, evidence was uncovered that confirmed the road’s use for many centuries after, which was hitherto unknown.
The feature was preserved ‘in situ’ as part of the scheme using a surface-mounted construction solution, and recorded along with the many other finds through the wider site.
