They say that fortune favours the brave, and Fortuna certainly smiled on the first ‘EDP Festival’, when the Team gathered for its now annual two-day, late season catch-up in the tranquil and verdant surroundings of Chedworth Farm in Gloucestershire.
In the unexpected (but welcome) early autumn sunshine, the ‘Best Wellies’ competition was hastily shelved as the team reached for their sunscreen and flip-flops.
Day 1 focused largely on a celebration of EDP’s culture and values, as teams grappled with workshop sessions aimed at building on multi-disciplinary understanding and the delivery of environmentally responsive but imaginative development.
Whilst the Cotswolds might not be ready for a statue of Colossus or an EDP Director astride a mighty dragon (at least not yet), the exercise nonetheless served to highlight the depth and breadth of design talent we have in the business, as the teams first explored the opportunities for (and constraints to) development, before competing to win favour with their imaginative solutions to a demanding brief.
Day 2 started hazily for some, but in beautiful autumnal sunshine we spent the morning engaged in a range of team-building activities… first escaping from non-existent rooms (kudos for our FD, who broke the code for the safe in under 30 minutes) and then combing the Cotswolds for clues to solve the riddle of a most terrible crime (I believe most of the scratches and stings have now healed, or at least stopped hurting!). Following a brief pause for refreshments and the award of prizes, the team dispersed for the weekend, reflecting on two days of fun and camaraderie in the last throes of another busy season.
The two day event was a great success and, whilst it might not yet have the legendary status of Glastonbury, we very much hope that the EDP Festival will make further appearances in the years to come. A warm thank you is extended to everyone at Cotswold Tipis who provided the accommodation; Readymade Catering, Foodgenie, the Warren Food Trailer and Corinium Ales for keeping the team fed and watered; Kickback, Sky’s the Limit and Trax Disco who provided the entertainment and of course the Strategy and Evolution Event Team (Gloucestershire County Scouts) who very kindly loaned us not only tents, but also equipment for the team building sessions.
